I think I'm getting the private label thing, since Little Falls is pretty close to me. Can somebody (maybe Tom or Sheila) give me the scoop on Myron DuBois?

Secondly, the enamel-repair threads I've read seem to advocate wax or paint - does that mean Crayola or Dutch Boy? Or is there a better way?

Hey Eric, I got a brand new box of Crayons that I was going to give to my 6 yr. old Grandson, but, heck, I'll get him another set if you want these.... Big Grin

It's the deluxe set too, has all the pastels and really neat.... Razz

That is really a neat dial....what is the watch it's attached to...?

Lin & Ernie have posted their methods of "dial repair" maybe if you searched for that something might come up....

I'm sure our resident 'Historians' can help you with info on Myron as well....

Good Luck....

Regards,
Jerry

Myron was born about 1855 in New York, in the 1880 census he lived in Ellenville, Ulster, NY. He was married to Lizzie. They also had a boarder Emmon Carver who was an apprentice jeweler.

Amazing that I own a watch belonging to a man whose birth predates James Buchanan's presidency. Thanks, Tom.

Jerry, I did a search under the Repair boards and that's what I found - white wax or white paint. There were references to a meltable enamel repair, but no links to a source. If the chip were any smaller I'd leave it, but it's visible with the bezel on.

Nice clean 15j movement with the dust ring included:

Lindell has a secret repair formula, it is posted here somewhere. We need a full tutorial from him (hint) on all the steps. I know he uses dry wall spackle & touch up enamel paint like for appliances. The photos of before & after are amazing.

I bought the stuff but didn't have the best luck but I wasn't too sure what I was doing.

Here is another Getty movement PL from upstate NY. Henry J. Pflantz had a store at 298 South Pearl Street in Albany, NY. I found him in the 1907 Albany Directory, and I also found note of him in the Oct. 11, 1890 Altamont Enterprise. In the Enterprise it was noted that Henry was nominated for the position of coroner at the Republican County Convention. Interesting stuff. If anyone knows anything else about Mr. Pflantz I would love to hear from you.

This photo shows another Henry Pflantz that I own. It is a 3/0s and the movement was made by Rockford. This was a local purchase and it even came with the original green velvet box with Henry Pflantz's label on the inner lid.

Wow Bruce, similar 15j Gettys and PL dials with chips at the lever. Hmm, never thought of drywall spackle. I'm gonna call my dentist and ask him about filler; the resin in my molars would be a perfect color match for that dial.

Tony, how many states are you up to now? Do you have a thread showing all of them?

Mr. Pflantz was born about 1852 in NY according to the 1880 census for Albany. He was living with his mother Hennrette & two of his sisters, he is listed as a jeweler then.

In the 1900 census for Albany it shows his dob as Jan 1846, he is still a jeweler & living with him was one of his sisters.

On October 7 & 8 of 1909 was an event called "The Hudson-Fulton Celebration", this was to commemorate the tercentenary discovery of the Hudson river. Henry was on the citizens' committee.

The image is from the 1881 Albany directory.

Tom, Thanks for the great information. I have a file folder set up for Mr. Pflantz and I save everything I can find about him. I have been searching for an old photo of the shop on South Pearl St., in Albany, but have come up dry. My buddy Jim Shutts suggested looking for old postcards of Pearl Street, but, as it turns out, all the postcards are of North Pearl instead of South Pearl. North Pearl was the "miracle mile" back in the late 19 century and on into the 20th century. On the other hand, South Pearl was less prestigious and mainly a southbound route to the pastures south of the city. If I ever get a shot of Henry's shop I'll be sure to post an image.

If you would like me to email you copies of the census etc. I can, I also found a brochure where he was a member of a church celebrating it's history there in Albany.

They are on the way to you Bruce, also found an Albany record by someone with his name that was a veteran of the civil war, he was in the 91 NY Vol., I can't make out the company, perhaps g or y, he served 7 Sep 1864 to 10 June 1865.
