Hamilton Canadian dial/hand combinations
I have a Hamilton 16s 3-foot Canadian, Montgomery dial. I have some of the "diamond" tipped hands which I've seen on the later, bolder dials. I was wondering if there was a more delecate version of those hand which went with this style dial, or were spade hand appropriate. Thanks for any input.

best,Kevin

Probably need a set of Hamilton 24 hour hands to go with the Hamilton 12/24 hour DSD.

Buster,

I do have a set of that style hand. My real quandry is that it looks too massive for the size of numbers on my (earlier) dial. Are you aware of a slimmer version of your hands??

Why not try them on your dial, and shoot a pic so the members can give a Yea/Nay to help with your quandary ??

Kevin, I have exactly the same dial and hands as Buster but honestly think those hands look better on your dial than ours.

Here is a pic of a dial with the shorter hour hand with the afternoon numbers in the centre chapter.

A bit better fit than mine or Buster's I would say

While this is a Rockford dial, not Hamilton, it is almost the same as yours and looks good with the light spade hands.

Buster, while the same, there are differences in our dials.

The 10 on yours is clipped and the afternoon numbers font is different.

Mine is a 992 #1537307 1920

What are your digits

Lorne,,thanks for your kind comments and photos. I was thinking the hands in your first post look like the ones used on the Ferguson dials.

Here's a dial in a 992, no175527 `1923

I say "Yea" as those hands on your dial Kevin look like a marriage from Heaven.

[Those hands & dial I ran come from a 2009 post and don't belong to me].

Perhaps others will offer their opinion as well.

Kevin: I like your combo. I think those 12/24 dials look better with a substantial set of hands vs the smaller spade hands. Gives a more balanced look.

Kevin, that looks like a perfect fit to me. I bet there are many who wish they had a set of those 24 hour hands. They look great with that dial! Smile

Thanks to everyone who chipped in.
I will go with your opinions. I'm thinking of installing the dial on a 952 (not currently accessible) if the production date fits in with a script signed dial.

Kevin

They started making the Hamilton 952, both pendent and lever set, in 1909 and went to 1924. The script dial like yours went till 1918, so there should be a good chance that it will work Kevin.

Those diamond hands are shown in Hamilton material catalogs from the 1920s and are called "24 Hour" and are absolutely correct for those Canadian dials.
