Hi

Just picked up this nice 12size Waltham with no second bit. It is in a green 14KT gold filled case marked Radio pat. Aug. 1923.

Then I opened the back to reveal this common Os, model 1907, grade 165, 15j, HC, movement. It has been keeping very good time. Any comments welcome.

That is strange. It does look like a 12 size from the front. I wonder how that dial mounts on the pillar plate which must be much larger than the rest of the plates. Very cool watch

Waltham did some very interesting "stretch" watches, where the dial and pillar plate were disproportionately larger than the movement. The "opera" being one of the more famous, which I think these helped use up Hunter Cased parts inventory. This a good example of that. It deserves restoration.

The reason that the watch is missing the seconds bit is that it a hunter and the seconds bit would have been at 3 o'clock near the center.

You will also see womens movements from Elgin in 12 size cases.I guess it was a way to use up unwanted movements.Rockford also had their Xtremethin (O size 15j in a thin 12 size case).

In some cases a thinner 10 or 12 size case was used with these womens movements to make them look like expensive ultra thin watches .
