Hello Group, I wanted to share with you this watch I bought today. It is an 16s Hampden "State Street" in a 14k gold box hinge case, circa 1878-79. Serial #90478. Here is what I wanted to share & get your thoughts. The dial is marked Hampden, while the movement is marked Springfield, Mass. "State Street". This watch was produced after Hampden bought out the New York Watch Co. and the movement is a New York Watch Co. 16s "State Street". The movement is not listed in the Hampden section of the book, but the serial number is (1878-79 right after they bought out N.Y. W. Co), but the movement is listed in the NY Watch Co section of the book. So, is this a Hampden or a New York Watch Co? Was this something Hampden did to get rid of left over stock? Is this rare to find in this configuration? The watch seems to be all original. One thing about the movement, like a coin, it has a beautiful "rainbow" toning to it. It really is pretty. Does this help or hurt the movement? I know in a coin, it is very desirable. Any thoughts? Best, Jim

This is; (according to my stuff) 1.) Extremely rare and valuable. $300-$450 in 1980 Ehrhardt-Meggars and the case goes for extra. 2.) a 17 size Hampden, very likely styled after one of the early Walthams such as the Bond Street Movments. 3.) Produced after Hampden was owner.
