Good afternoon everyone.

I was browsing around and came upon this Waltham 845 on eBay just a few minutes ago and something didn't seem quite right.

The first photo is a Waltham 845 that I own now, in a display case (I know, wrong case, and I'm working on that.)

Anyway, if I put my 845, and the one on eBay in the same orientation, the two movements don't match. By that I mean, the large and small gears have switched places. Am I missing something here? What is it that I don't understand? Are there more than one model 845 variations or what?

It would appear that these two Walthams have their stems in two different positions. Now that I've posted this, and thought about it for a bit, I guess they did make them for both the hunter case and the open face.

Since we can't see the dial my off the cuff guess would be one is a hunter and one is an open face. It isn't that unusual to see the orientation change depending on the movement type Elgin model
Look at the link and then compare the model 6, hunter and the model 7 open face.

Having taken apart a few watches I notice that the small winding wheel is under the winding stem as it should be. I think Claude is correct in that one is a hunter (on the left) and the other is an open face. Another thning that points to it is the second jewel off the balance (its under the number 845) is usually the gear/shaft that drives the seconds hand.
