Eric UnseltSharpie or paint?
I know this has come up in the past, but I can't find the posting.
Has anybody had good results with filling in the missing paint in the letters on plate engravings? My wild Amish watchmaker claims a black Sharpie will work using two or three applications, letting each dry, and them wiping the excess with denatured alcohol.
Opinions?

Phillip SanchezEric, your watchmaker is right. I believe the sharpie pen thing works. Put it on and wipe it off and it stays in the depressions.

Eugene BuffardI,m sure the sharpie would work. I'm not sure if it would make it thru One ultrasonic cleaning with watch cleaning solution. The cleaner I use is ammoniated.
I use model car paint. The enamel type. I apply it then use a breath of mineral spirts on a cloth, sometimes I use a Q-tip type product [ the type that don't have the fuzz hanging from them] in the real tight spots.
If you have ever had those Bunn Specials with the red lettering I've commandeered just the right color of finger nail polish from my wife. It is hard to find the correct color of model paint for them.
For the record I'll try the sharpie the next time I have a Bunn special that needs a touch up.
