Is this 14k solid gold or gold-filled? (Hallmark question) "Click" to Login or Register

Hello,

I'm unsure of whether this mark is for a gold-filled watch or solid gold. Any help? It's for an Elgin pocket watch if that matters.

Thanks!

Hi Gary

I think the 'crown and 14 k' mark was used by Muhr & Brother on 14 K gold-filled 25-years cases.

Thanks, Gerald! That's what I found in my research, but just wanted to make sure.

Gary if it is not marked Guaranteed/Warranted U. S. Assay 14k or .525 it is always best to assume gold filled. I paid for my experience the hard way years ago and at least gold was not so expensive!
