ELGIN 14K GOLD "Click" to Login or Register

Today I bought a lot of 10 watches from our local market (Istanbul)
One is very interesting because he has the 14K marking but the seller has asked a non solid gold price because he bought it from Ebay as gold filled price.
On the interior of the dust cover there is another 14K marking. This markings seems to be made by sparking machine or low quality laser marking machine.

Brand name Elgin is marked under the balance.

Any idea about this watch? Thank you.
Bulent

Here's what Waynes Elgin site says about your watch:

Thank you Mark. I have already this information. On the movement side there is no problem.

The marking on the back cover seems original.
"PENDANT PAT.OCT.9.17 14K 1120764"
On the inside of the dust cover Hadsworth 14 KARAT is market. I suppose this marking is not original. Also this side of the dust cover is not brillant like gold. Do you know the meaning of Hadsworth? The first letter may not be H.

Thank you.

Bulent, That case name is Wadsworth, and that is a casemaker. The scripted "W" letter is so artistic that it actually looks like an "H". Eek

I will leave the judgement of the accuracy of the 14 Karat Mark to the experts, and I hope the name coreection helps you.

I have owned many of these cases and still have one i would say it's 14kt gold.. that marking is right this is the way most of the 10 and 12 size cases made by wadsworth were marked.. Open the dust cover and flex it a little if gold it will flex easy and be soft if gold filled it will be very rigid and not flex.. Smile

I agree with Samie. Looks like a Wadsworth mark on a 14k gold case. Just be careful when doing the flex test.

Early on Wadsworth marked their gold cases 14kt us assay later on the 14kt and 18kt gold ones were marked like your case and the gold filled ones were marked 14kt gold filled like the Case Edward posted... Smile

Bulent, The answer is simple when you think about it. All of these cases were marked for their material content as gold filled or the Karat rating of solid gold.

This case is only marked 14 Karat. I would be very confident that it it a solid gold case because it DOES NOT STATE OTHERWISE.

Thanks to all; Mark, David, Samie, Leon, Edward, Jerry and Robert.

Technology has put the last point. Somebody told me about a company doing metal analyses by laser for $20. I did make. Result attached.

Thank you again,

Bulent
