Whenever I'm out in public I have a habit of looking at peoples watches to see if they are mechanical or not, 99% of the time they are quartz.
But you do get an exsepton now and again!
How many of you guys also do this ?

Always...Chains(pocket) and wrist...And if I see something interesting I ask questions...I have found most people, if they are collectors or not, are always willing to talk about their watches..

I don't think I've ever noticed somebody else carrying a pocket watch. Automatic wrist watches, especially Omega and Rolex, make an occasional appearance.

I do notice pocket watches. But I found out my doctor was a collector when he noticed me checking the time on the Elgin I was carrying.
I have to see him for one prescription each month. So its become an ongoing topic of what watches we have gotten since last time. He only collects 18s, but likes them all. Last time he pulled out a vanguard in a very nice gold filled case.

True, I don't see too many with Pocket Watches these days, But there are still a few of us.
I always look for pocket watches in old movies as well. All to often they will pull out a really nice hunting case watch to check the time. 99 % of the time they just " snap " the cover closed without pushing in on the stem. I guess that explains why we see so many messed up cases today.

Agreed 100%, Jack. I cringe everytime I see that done, but let's face it, we see it done all the time in movies, so folks who don't KNOW any better think it's the 'norm'.

I've been noticing more and more that people are wearing chains on their pants, I don't know if they are carrying pocket watches or just wearing the chain for fashion but I hope they are wearing pocket watches, it would be GREAT to see them making a come back !!

Younger folks seem to not use ANY watch. Their phone is all they use. I think that ALL watches will soon be viewed as obsolete.
Ever notice that all of our Pocket Watch guys are old ? Except of course, our own Francesco !!
It's great to see a fine young man with this interest.

I always look for chains and sometimes at wristwatches. You do see more chains but they seem to be for wallets or keys although some trades people like a pocket watch because they don't get damaged as easily as a wristwatch might. I think the cell phone will make watches more of an accessory than a necessity.
