Possible, the Earps lived in Lamar, the jeweler was John m. Earp born about 1857 in Tn. In 1920 he is in Lamar with his wife Ida S., daughter Mayme, son Guy B., granddaughter Margaret E., John is listed as a retail jewelry merchant & his son Guy works there too.

Found a little more that makes it more interesting, his middle name was Morgan. He died in 1939 & his wife was Ida Estella Maxwell Earp. He is buried at Lake Cemetery Lamar Heights Barton County Mo.

Kind of a side note, there were two jewelers that were friends of John Henry (Doc) Holliday that I always keep an eye out for anything with their names on. One of them became an outlaw in Tombstone & died there. He had TB like Doc.

I have no idea if they ever had anything with their names on it but I always thought it would be neat to find.

Yeah, I got to dig out all my books on them & see if I can find a connection. This John Morgan would be the right age to be Wyatt, Virgil & Morgan's uncle.

It looks like he was either from Ky or Tn, one census shows one & one on the other.

The hunt is on.

Just looking a little more, Wyatt, Virgil & Morgan's dad was Nichols Porter Earp & he was born in 1813 in Kentucky according to some census records & North Carolina on others.

The John Morgan Earp on the dial is listed as both Tn & Ky on census forms, he was born 1856.

So to link these two Earp families together would take a lot of time & work. We will see if I get really bored.

Well this might have been easier than I thought.

Now I can't guarantee the accuracy here yet.

John Morgan Earp 1857-1939 his parents were

Jonathan Douglas Earp (1824 Kentuckey) & Dorcas Cox

Jonathan's parents were;
Walter Earp (1787 Maryland) & Martha Ann Early 1790

Walter also had a son Nicholas Porter Earp (1813-1907)

Nicolas Porter Earp had James, Virgil, Martha, Wyatt, Morgan, Baxter, Virginia, Adelia.

So if this correct Desmond then your jeweler J.M. Earp was the nephew of Nicholas Porter Earp & if I am thinking right then he was a 1st cousin to the famous Earp brothers.

In spring 1868, the Earps moved again, this time settling in Lamar, Missouri where Nicholas became the local constable. When Nicholas resigned to become Justice of the Peace on November 17, 1869, Wyatt was immediately appointed constable in place of his father. On November 26 and in return for his appointment, Earp filed a bond of $1000. His sureties for this bond were his father Nicholas Porter Earp, his paternal uncle Jonathan Douglas Earp (April 28, 1824 - October 20, 1900) and James Maupin.

I need to find my notes for all the information, but they were;

William (Billy) Leonard was the jeweler turned outlaw. He had been a jeweler in Las Vegas NM but by 1880 he was in Tombstone. He was involved in a hold up of the Benson stage where one of the operators was killed.

The other was a jeweler in Tombstone Frank C. Marsh, Leonard lived with him for a while in Tombstone.

I have ebay search everyday for the last names but so far every hit is for something unrelated. I don't know if they every had anything made with their names on them but I thought it would be neat to find.

So now if you go out tomorrow & find something you have to sell it to me at a modest profit.
