Looking for Factory cased 992's "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Please see my detailed entry under items wanted. I have embarked on assembling a modest set of Factory cased 992s. Have a decent start and now into the hard stuff. One I had thout would be easy has been ellusive. I've been bidding but losing on the few that show up. This is the Model A with shoulders with nice pre 1948 992B movement and appropriate Porcelain Dial and hands. I thought this would be a common watch...is it?

If you have this or others to sell see my "items wanted" post.

Gary,

It looks like you’re trying to get a complete collection of the Hamilton factory advertised RR cases. The Model A you’re seeking is common. It took me several years to put together my set and for whatever reason sometimes common cases become difficult. The model 10 took a while for me to acquire.

The Models 9, 14, 12, and 17 (Keystone) will probably be the most difficult to find on your list, especially if you want extra-fine condition. There recently was a model 9 sold on ebay that went fairly cheap but the condition was average.

I used a “generic” model 14 in my collection for a couple years to make the collection look complete. Finally I was able to get the real deal, marked Hamilton, but the condition isn’t the best so I also am on the lookout for a better model 14. I have a theory those generic 14 cases were used by Hamilton but there’s no way to prove it. My point being sometimes you have to take what you can get with the less common models and improve later to get the condition to your standards.

Good Luck,

RR

Gary;

I've probably got what you want, these will range from $300 for an average to $579 for a really nice one.

I did acquire the Model A with shoulders on IHC185 auction this past week from Andy. The case is not perfect but the dial and rest of the watch were extremenly nice, nice early production movement and everything looks original. So I have filled that hole in my collection.

Richard defined my next targets well along with a model 8. This will require diligence, patience and $$$ I'm sure. I'm good on the first one of those but limited on the last two.
