Hi, can anyone tell me what these moon hands go to? I know it's not this Hamilton 992, #2307277

Some of your lower grade 16sz Getty Illinois watches came with Moon Hands. My suspicion is they are after market. I could be wrong but I thought most factory Period hands would of had a silver circle in the middle of the minute hand.

Or they could be #2146 Elgin hands....

That is just a bad camere angel Eugene. They do have the silver circle. They are a real nice set of hands. I just had a pretty good idea they didn't go on a 1925 Hamilton 992. Maybe a 1942-43 Hamilton, but not this one.

I just remembered Jerry, I sold a 12 size Waltham on here that had moon hands also.
Well, wish I had an Elgin that needed hands, but I don't.

On a 16s movement you would see moon hands on the Elgin grades 155/161 but you also see moon hands on the Burlington 21j

Well you are right about the hands NOT going on any RR watch from Hamilton in 1925, but they could have POSSIBLY used the Breguet hands on WW2 992B's as material was short. They do appear to be Hamilton hands which would have been used on lesser grades such as 956 etc. from at least back to the 1915 era and maybe earlier and later

This is what makes watch collecting so interesting....and as the old saying goes, a moon hand is a moon hand, is a moon hand....well that isn't necessarily true....

Most if not all watch companies used Moon Hands on their watches at times, but each company that did used slightly different, in appearance....

Elgin used multiple types of Moon Hands on each size watch, for example on the 18 size KW they used #2065 and on the 18s SW used #1320 and they did not look the same....

Additionally, on their 16s watches they used #2146, which is similar to the one in question, on the majority of their 16s but used #21 on their Convertibles - Mdl. 1 & 2....plus they used #396 and also #398 on the Mdl. 4....and all had different appearanes....

As far as the moon hands in question, they very well could be Hamilton hands, I don't have a Hamilton parts book, maybe someone has one that could tell us for sure....and Buster could very well be correct....

When I noticed the color of the hands is when I decided to put them on here. They just seemed to be the right color.

They are on a 1925 movement too. But talk about being all messed up! It has what looks like a Melamine dial, the case bow is JUNK, and they used the wrong tool to forse the second hand on, is's bent into the dial.
It will be fun putting this one back to where it belongs.
