were C. L. Mellott watches produced by Hamilton for a jewelry store in Waynsfield, Ohio or were they produced by the C. L. Mellott watch company that used Hamilton movements amongst others perhaps? Does anyone know anything about this marque?

Not sure if I follow your question. There was a Camden L. Mellott that was a jeweler. In 1930 he was the manager of a store in Woodsfield Ohio, in 1900, 1910 & 1920 he is living in Center, Ohio & listed as owning a jewelery store. Camden was born about September of 1864 in Ohio. Do you have a Hamilton movement with his name on it? Tom

Congratulation for finding this site. A photo would be helpful. I'm guessing the name on the dial is that of the Jewelry store that is in question. And is the movement is marked Hamilton. It was common practice for Jewelry stores to order watches from Watch manufactures Like Hamilton. They could order there name on the Movements or dials or both, I'm sure there will be many other people that answer your question.

Here is a fairly common private label dial look, see below. I am not a big Hamilton collector but typically on the private label Hamiltons that I see especially the 18s grades the barrel bridge is the part of the watch that is typically engraved to match what is on the dial. Some brands did not engrave the movements. When it comes to a private label I think it was up to the individual company on how they handled private labels. Sounds like you have a private label Hamilton, the serial number on the movement should help people tell you what grade it is.
