I have just purchased a Grade 270 for $25.00 running but uncased, serial#9250974 and was wondering if someone can enlighten me on the differences between the Marked Veritas (not marked with Grade 270 but in the database as such), and the Grade 270 (marked as such, but also has it being a Veritas in the database).
Are they the identical watch and did Elgin mark some of the movements with both markings or just picked and chose certain watches from the same production runs?
Also what would be the correct era & style case for this watch?
Cheers to All.

The Grade 270 double rollers started in the 10.5m s/n range, so your single roller 270 is quite unique but for the finishing has no difference between "Veritas" and 270. I think the "Veritas" cost more and started being made from the 270 Grade. Not sure when tho . . .

No real differences just Elgin marketing the grade differently. Much like the grade 149 that can be found marked Father Time, no markings and sometimes 348. You will find them with dished wheels and with the squiggly line wheels. Any tall or mid size pendant case would be ok but a later no pendant case would be a no no. Early runs were 270's later runs Veritas, with the 270's produced in greater numbers.
Nice grade Elgin
