The 50-50 auction 14 size 7j Waltham "Home" watch Mike Penson donated for the cause arrived here today. I cleaned it up and it is a beauty! PERFECT hand-drawn Factory dial. The only 14 size exposed balance cock watch I have, sort of a "mini 1870" Key Winder! Thank you Mike, now for finding a seconds wheel with the hand extension still on it . . .

A little fuzzy, but you can see the "scaled down" look. The 14 size is very fragile though. I was surprised at some of the things AWWCo did to make this smaller.

Is there a history of the name, Home Watch?

In my opinion, The Elgin "Sun Dial", and Waltham's "Home" Models were both made during this period as rather transparent (everybody knew who made them) competition to counter "Cheap" (Swiss) watch sales. In truth, the consumer market that would respond to low level pricing did not materialize until the "Dollar Watch" became available, as the difference in price of the Sun Dial and Home watches from "named" Elgin and Waltham watches was too small.

Brian C. Corrected me about the "Home Watch Co." made by AWWCo, as those were originally intended for export sales. They did get very popular in England, and (I Think) France.
