I think the Hamilton 937 was a RR Grade watch. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have two 937's that I want to put DS dials on as they should have. However the dials I want to put on are period correct but they are Roman Numeral DS dials. I don't believe RR Grade watches could use Roman Numeral dials, could they? Maybe I'm getting RR Grade confused with RR Approved. Since these are hunter cased movements would they be RR Grade and or RR Approved? I like the Roman Numeral Dials and I am going to put hem on but I just want to know what I'm doing even though I'm going to do it anyway. Does that make any since?

Harry, The 937 is certainly railroad grade since the 936 was originally intended for railroad use and qualified on the roads which accepted 17 jewel watches. However the 937 was not railroad approved since it was a hunting watch. Roman numeral dials were frequently the preferred ones for Hamilton hunting watches of this era so I think you should go ahead and do what you were going to do anyway.

Harry, it is my opinion, and understanding that, 936 & 937 were RR Grade. Probably the 937 would not have been considered RR Approved because it is HC but, according to a very knowledgeble source, 936 was both approved and RR grade. I would put a DS Roman dial on a 937 and proudly show it.

Thank you Robert and Mike. I had never correlated the Roman Numeral with the HC. I like the look of the Roman Numeral on the older watches. Seems I was headed in the right direction and I appreciate you keeping me right on track. Harry
