Can anyone tell me what that Shugart book says the value of this is. Might try selling it or trading so I can finally get the Bunn Special I've been wanting. I've got about $200 in it, just had a new mainspring and COA, hope to get enough for that Bunn!

This is what it looks like now, after a polish. The parts of the back looking like brassing weren't, they polished up and the whole watch shines like new money

Bill,

Auctions closed on three watches very similar to this one with bids between 135.50 and 155.02 in the last two hours.

Non of them said they had recent COA's. I would imagine that puts you pretty close to even money on your investment if you can find a buyer.

Bill, When you polish a watch like that with brassing on it you will make it LOOK like there is no brassing on them, But trust me it is there.

Put that case in amonia for about an hour and you will see what I mean. A good jewelers rough cloth will keep it looking like it does now though, and it looks a LOT better than it did for sure. Just remember, you can NEVER get rid of that brassing as the gold fill is just gone.

If you are selling it for what you have in it, I would be interested.

Regards,
Larry

Thanks guys, another lesson learned.
I went to sleep last night (tossed and turned all night, actually) and woke up this morning realizing that no matter how bad I want to buy Mikes's watch, I can't part with another watch to do it. I must have bumped my head before posting this, or was just daydreaming about ways to get another watch without angering my wife. Sorry, and thanks for the information.
I looked at those areas with a loupe and can see what you mean.

That's funny stuff Bill.

Because I have not sold anything yet, my boss who is in to coins, insists I am a collector.

My wife however has been gently explaining to me that there is a fine line between collecting and hoarding.

Paul-

There's always a fine line between it all. I like to think I collect pocket watches and hoard parts. Makes me feel better that way. If you ask my wife, she would reply that I have an addiction. Thats what a psychologist would correctly word it as.... Big Grin

I think it best to leave the coins out of all this Paul, I've been through that with my wife as well! I keep saying I'll sell some coins to pay for the watches and vice versa, the there the woodworking tools, watchmaking tools etc etc etc.
I WILL sell something someday, just not right now, honey!
edit: at least I don't buy the occasional "Harley in a box" or "car in need of slight repair" anymore
