Hi all,

Just purchased serial # 91921 which dates to 1863. I think the case is the Am Watch Co with eagle the green book guide is referring to as a two star watch. The book lists below serial # 46,600 as the two star. This watch is above that serial # but wouldn't it be worth more than a later Wm Ellery that wasn't produced during the Civil War? The seconds hand looks wrong and the minute hand questionable. Any information will be helpful.

Comments welcome,

RR

A very nice and original looking watch Richard Smile

I think that the hour hand looks original. The seconds hand looks a shade long. I always put a premium on pre and Civil War era watches, as they could very well have been on the battlefield, but they at least were alive and running during that era Smile

bb

One thing for sure, Richard, this is a very collectible watch....

My data base tells me that the watch is a Mdl. 1857, 7-11 jewels, with a steel Balance. Made in a run of 300 in the month of October of 1863 and that there were only 300 made and #91927 was #127 made....

Maybe others can shed more light on this one....

Great find....

Regards,

Jerry

I have that model watch with #67866 from the June or July production run of 1863.

Great watch, Richard.

To me, the minute hand looks more correct than the hour hand. The seconds hand definitely looks heavy with the ball on the tail.

Everyone,

Thank you for the comments and information. The watch Dana has #67866 is from the same run as Abraham Lincoln's Wm. Ellery. The most information I could find on Lincoln's watch is in an article written by Gary Arnal. The article was previously posted here. Pair of civil war era Waltham Wm Ellery

Here's a link to #67631. Lincolns Waltham It says it's a model 1859 11J but the pictures clearly show a model 1857 7j. What's interesting is this watch is an open face and Lincoln's was a hunting.

Dana,
I was wondering if your watch is an open face or hunting case and is it 7 or 11 jewels? Sure would like to see some pictures.

The ledger below is showing serial # 67581 - 67900 as full plate (model 1857) movements with plain (7J) jewelling. It doesn't state open face or hunting case and I have no idea of the accuracy.
