Illinois question "Click" to Login or Register

I've often read that the 16s Illinois Getty (single ratchet) models are supposed to be one of the best 16s designs made. Can anyone explain what about them makes them so good? They sure do have an unusual appearance with the hidden crown wheel and elaborate looking click. Were they an expensive movement to produce, compared to the standard Illinois types? Thanks, Ted.

I too would like to know more about these Getty movements. I find them easy to repair. Here is a Getty with "Arlington Special" marked on it from around 1901.
