Am I reading the fat book correctly that on E Howard movements, if the arrow has just the circle and no other symbol inside it such as the 'star', the watch is BOTH 17J and with 3 adjustments?
Are these always the combination or could a watch have this arrow symbol and be say, 17J and 5Adj?
Thanks

If you have a circle arrow, no need to look much further... 17J 3p is what you have...
However... take a look through the bridge plates, to the bottom side of the pillar plate... If there are any special attributes for the watch, they are generally engraved or stamped here... between the fingers or around the balance wheel and pallet.
Look here especially if there is no stamp on the main bridge... I have a nice jeweled barrel 19J 1907 that only says E. Howard and Boston USA on the bridge. all the markings, serial number, special adjustment - 5 positions and temperature... are down inside the watch below the balance wheel.

Hi Paul, thanks for the info and that is just why I was curious. I've seen one with just that configuration. So I'm guessing that the additional marking noting the 5position adjustment would be correct for the watch.
Is it likely this happened at the factory or is it more likely that someone changed the bridge at some time after the manufacturing? Needed repair perhaps?
