Here's one I'm trying to figure out. It's a Waltham 1883 Canadian Pacific. Is it the real deal? Has a 24 hour dial & marked movement with the beaver & shield, but there is not any number under the beaver plate. No markings at all. It is housed in an unusual case. Any thoughts. Thanks, Jim | |||

Pattern back case. Take note were this screws off. Not at the case ring, just the center unscrews. | ||||

Jim, That is one cool looking watch. That case is very unique. I have not seen one like that before. Thanks for sharing it. Nice watch James but the damaskeening between the top plate and the barrel bridge doesn't look like it matches up too well, I'd check the numbers on the barrel bridge to be sure. Ray | ||||

Ray, I noticed that also, but looking at other CPR's, I have seen a number of them were the damaskeening doesn't match. Take a look at one Lindell sold. You will notice the damaskeening doesn't match, but the numbers do. As I stated, there are no numbers or markings of any kind under the plate. But the watch looks right... Jim PS. This run was supposed to be Appleton Tracy's of Premium Grade. That being said, the fitment of the bridge should be much better. These Bridge-marked CPR's, especially where this is Pendant set make me very nervous. With the fitment issue between the Barrel Bridge and the Balance cock, I hope there is a valid number on the back of the Barrel Bridge that matches the movement. | |||

James, Your right that some don't seem to match up with the damaskeening..I have never owned one or even seen one in person so I can not tell either way without a serial number under the bridge to verify. Nice watch. Ray | ||||

Without numbers on the barrel bridge, could this be a factory after market part? I seem to remember talking to a Waltham expert years ago and telling him, his damaskeening didn't match. I believe that was the answer he gave me. Brian C. | ||||

The chem/photo etching of the CPR logo can be done today just a easily and look identical to how it was done by Waltham on the 1883 movements they listed as so marked. This is a beautiful watch with a great case and very unique dial. Waltham offered spare parts Barrel Bridges for all types of the 1883 movement. Having no serial number under the barrel plate tells me this was added later. The movement would probably be acceptable as RR grade anyway, so it remains; Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda . . . ? | |||

Dave: I wouldn't be too nervous about pendant set CPR 1883's. I have one in my collection with a watch card from DW Dingwall a CPR Watch Inspector in Winnipeg Manitoba it is approved for service in 1903 and the conductor who owned it used it in service for many years after. Larry | |||
