Rockford backplate decoration "Click" to Login or Register

I thought this makes an interesting comparison. The 2 watches are both 18 size 17 jewel model 9 Rockford movements but 3 years apart. The older is grade 935 and the younger 938. Apart from the decoration and the missing regulator spring they look the same to me. Perhaps there are some suttle differences in the works. Anyone got another pattern to add to these? Just to clarify I am after different decoration but the same size, plate layout, lettering etc.

Stephen,
I don't have any to add, but they sure look nice.

Very different, and look high grade too.

I like em, a lot!

Stephen,
Did you see the ones on ebay lately? WOW are they fantastic, but really high dollar too!

I'll post the URL if you want it, I've been curious about what they will go for so I kept them on my ebay page.

Really beautiful.

Hello Sheila,
Very nice examples. It shows that the bloke who worked the machine that did the decoration was a bit artistic perhaps. I wonder how often they changed the pattern. Perhaps each operator had his own style and from the pattern they knew who did it. I wonder if they kept any record of what was done and when. Likely the information was lost when the company closed. Many questions but few answers. Thanks for the pics.

Hello Charles,
Yours are both very nice watchs but the first is a different model. It has the adjuster screw to change from open to hunter. You would expect a different model to have different decoration. The second is closer but has different lettering, a different adjuster spring and no screws holding the cap jewel into the balance cock. The thing I found interesting about the 2 I posted is that they appear the same in every detail apart from the decoration. Even the lettering is the same. They are different runs but that is the only differenc I can find. The 2 very nice examples Sheila posted are also very similar but they are hunter cases. 1 of them has the word adjusted on it and the other has not. Again small differences but not exactly the same as the first 2.
I still appreciate your posts. Thanks both.

Charles,
Those are Beautiful! Sure are wonderful movements huh?

Stephen,
I see what you mean now, I was just comparing the damaskeening on the movement. Good eye for the details! Nice.
