The Addison watch made by Waterbury and New England Watch Co. is the only watch I collect. My son Addison was born a few years after I got into watches and my shop at the time was on Addison St. in Berkeley although he was named after my great uncle who, in turn, was named after Addison Foster, a relative and a former senator from Tacoma.

Anyway, over the last 18 years I have amassed a pile of this brand that numbers around 250 examples; no two the same mind you. Many of these were aquired for free as gifts or as junk that came along with other purchases. I have bought a lot too over the years in the hope of creating, I hope, a neat collection to dump on Addi someday.

The most expensive one I ever bought cost me $103. Spending that much was a bit of a shock but the watch was a silver cased, fancy dialed 18s with a nickeled mov't. I'd never heard of a nickeled K size Addison before or since so I'm glad I got it. That would be about 6 or 7 years ago.

So,this last week, I saw a nice but plain 18S Addison on ebay with a plain white dial. It was misdescribed as a 14S but I put in my usual bid for 37.. When I saw that it was going higher I put in a new bid at 47.. I was still not on top and decided to let it go. When I got my"you were not the winner" post from ebay I looked at the result and was a bit shocked to see it hit 153.! I'm happy to see the enthusiastic bidding on these primordial Timex. If I could do half as well, Addi might get a year of college out of this stuff!

p.s.-to see more abut Addison watches I have a bunch posted on this site. Somebody Roll Eyes did a cool thing and turned it into a slideshow.
I extend my gratitude to that clever person!
