Elgin grade 506 Slimline case double stike "Click" to Login or Register
posted
One time in the past I mentioned that on some Elgin grade 506 or 494 that the 6 in the Adjusted to 6 Positions appeared to be a double stike marking.

Most grade 506s are marked adjusted to 5 positons but many are marked adjusted to 6 positions. My original 506 was marked 5 positions but I have now picked up two 506s that are marked to 6 positions and both are double strikes on the number.

Normally I don't double up but when you can pick up an extremely nice watch for under $200 I will double up or double down all the time. This is a beautiful watch, shows very little wear, no abuse, no brass, dings, dents etc. The movement has a gold round armed train and gold jewel settings. This grade is basically a grade 478 on steroids. Wayne's old site showed 4600 production and the new one shows 5500, in my elgin grade book it appears that 4600 is the correct number. There were 6 last 100 pulls from grade 478 runs and then 4 1000 runs, so with the first 6 100 pulls Elgin must have been doing some tweaking to get the extra position.

Here are pictures of my 2nd 506, I will post my other one later.
