Elgin 540 question? "Click" to Login or Register
posted
I have an Elgin Gr. 540 pocket watch that is missing the BW, BW cock, pallet fork and bridge. I've been searching my manuals and online, but I can't find what the BW and pallet fork look like. What is the closest grade that shares parts with the 540?

Here's a photo of a 540.
I don't see it listed in my Swigart parts book, but it looks like the 570 series.

Is your BW solid or split? I took a look at a couple of 570 series and they are different. I was wondering if a 478 Gr. was about the same. I'll keep looking.

I think they're solid. I got the photo off the net.

Hi John,

I checked mine this morning and it has a split balance. It appears to have the same plate layout as a 478. Below is a link I have used in the past that may be helpful.
