Am I* wrong that the Price guide shows no listing for a Getty model 186 2 tone movement in an open face configuration. The pocket watch data base shows an open face version Getty in their listing but does not mention the 2 tone movement. It shows total production of 4200. The price Guide list the 2 tone version as a hunter.

Thanks as always,
Harry

Thank you Buster. Although Davids post is very interesting it does not clear up my original question and I have done more research that only muddies the water.

I have found more information that says 7200 were produced. None of the information says how many HC or OF there were out of the 7200, 4200, or David's 1420 total (whichever is the correct number).

David says his is 1 of 200 produced in that configuration and someone ask David how he got that number and he did not answer that question. Mine looks just like Davids to me but there could be a very tiny difference that I have not noticed.

Thank you Buster for taking the time to show David's posting, hopefully someone with some more information will chime in.

There are several variations. There were a total of 7,100 produced in both hunting and open face. There were 2,930 made in hunting case movements with 10 of those being 23 jewels and the rest 17 jewel. There were 4,170 made in open face configuration with 80 of those being 23 jewel and the rest being 17 jewel.

All of the 23 jewel are marked Wilson Bros. "King of the Road", are double roller, and were all adjusted to 5 positions.

Of the 17 jewel variety in hunting case configuration 2,920 were the earliest and were single roller.

Of the 17 jewel variety in open face configuration 2,870 were the earliest and were single roller.

After serial number 2,268,201 they were all double roller and were marked with the grade #186.

Of the 17 jewel variety in open face configuration with double roller, such as yours and David's which were later, there were 1,220 produced.

Another variation would be whether they were marked "Ruby" jewels, some were and some weren't even though they all used ruby jewels, fewer are marked "Ruby" jewels.

Another variation is that the earliest were only marked "Adjusted", then after serial #1,700,000 they were marked "Adjusted to Four Positions".

That's about all I can do for the Illinois Getty Grade 186's Harry.

regards,
bb
