In his book on Illinois watches, Bill Meggers described the 18S Grade "100" watch which had many of the characteristics of the Grade "105" watch (p. 102 in Meggers & Ehrhardt, with photo on p. 97, #4). Since then additional "105 look-alikes" have also appeared in several variations: A 16RJ Model "3" that Meggers described (s/n 301,825) and later one with s/n 301,828 A 15RJ Model "2" version with s/n 301,690. A 15RJ Model "1" KW version with s/n 301,627 and 301,651. An individual from Quebec, Canada, Louis Beaulieu, contacted me last week with information and photos of s/n 301,661 which he had inherited from his grandfather (born in 1878). This watch is also a Model "1" and has the identical dial as found on s/n 301,651. He is most interested in any additional information other collectors might have on this "105-look-alike" beyond what I was able to provide, and will be following this discussion here. Also, Mr. Beaulieu is in need of a suggestion or recommendation for a reputable watch repairman in Quebec to clean & oil this watch (which he will be passing along to his daughter). If you know of one, please post the information here or send it to him at: LBeaulieu@cgaspesie.qc.ca Thanks to all for any additional information on this unique variation. Since the total production of the Model 1, 2 & 3 versions of this watch was only 102, the discovery of this 6th example seems extraordinary to me. Russ | ||
