Waltham 16sz WI dial "Click" to Login or Register

Just picked this up today but don't know if it is correct. The second bit is not sunk, just sort of impressed.

A replacement dial?

no swiss markings, just that little dot near the center hole.

3 feet but you can see that is not single sunk.

18.5 , 39, and 57.75 foot positions.

scanner pics are pretty good and they were the fastest way to get right size pics. back is actually more like a tarnished copper color.

Bill, this Dial of yours is not anything like the one on the 16s. Waltham Vanguard I have for sale right now. Here's a link to the watch and you can compare the pictures:

I know your Dial is NOT a Vanguard 23 jewel marked one, but after I bought this watch, I tried to find all I could about Waltham WI. The ones on the Bay seem to have double sunk and most, (Not all), on those other than a Vanguard 23, all seem to be double sunk including most of the WI dials.

Thanks Paul,

definitely outside my comfort area here. I know that there were Rockford replacement dials for their WI and suspect that my dial is a similar replacement.

I have a replacement Elgin WI dial with the back marked "Swiss", the two areas are sunken but do not have the typical multi-piece structure. I figure that mine was one of the S LaRose replacements that were sold for some time, nice looking and it would take some serious checking to see that it was not an official Elgin WI dial.

Bill, I agree with Paul, that is not an original Waltham dial.

Looks like one of the S. Larose replacement dials they sold in the 1990s to me. They were painted on a brass disc which when tarnished look pretty much like what you describe. One of our members, I don't recall who it was or all the particulars, had problems with such a dial. I remember an issue arising when there was an attempt to install an aftermarket painted indicator dial and it turned out to be too thick to use.

Sorry, but that's probably what you have.

Don, the same thing happened with their after market dials for 992B's.

Thanks guys,

Not surprised, thought it would be something like that.

Would the fitting problem be solved by a different case?

If the dial isn't original, then a non original case wouldn't matter much.
