I finally was able to get the back open for a picture. The case is rough but the dial and crystal are perfect.

Your watch is an 8 day Swiss watch--many were made by Hedomis ( I am not sure of the spelling as I don't have my reference books handy). They were produced from the 1920s through the 1960s.

Many of them have colorful dials like yours and a highly engraved ( repousee) back.I have seen a few with silver cases and one with a mother of pearl dial.

Because of the exposed balance wheel in the front of the watch some people mistakenly assume they have a tourbillon movement.

Hope this helps

Hello Bob:
The correct spelling is "Hebdomas." These are fun to look at, however, they never keep very good time. I'm not sure why, but the ones I have restored, never turn out to keep real good time. Be careful if you take the back (main spring barrel) off. The fastener is a "right hand" screw. Please see "The Complete Guide To Watches" by Shugart, 2007 Pg. 501 for more information.
Cheers!

seven jewels I believe. Don't keep very good time because of the 8 day winding ability.

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Thanks all, for your "greatly appreciated" information.

I have had this watch laying around for at least 40 years, and don't really remember where or how I aquired it, but have always thought it was a neat looking watch. As I am not a collector, I am wondering if the watch is worth having the case refinished and the watch cleaned and put into working condition, even tho, it was mentioned that it wouldn't keep very good time. It would be interesting to see and hear it running. The balance wheel and hair spring seem to move freely, but the watch seems to have been wound to tightly. Here again, just a guess.

Again, thanks for your input!

Bob Miller

P.S....Joel, I am a retired tool and die maker but would not think of taking the watch apart, I do know my limitations. (LOL) Thanks for the heads up tho!!

I also have a watch from Hebdomas (about 36 years) and enjoy it a lot. It's charm for me is of course as mentioned the exposed balance wheel and the ornate case, and gold roses on the dial

I'll keep mine just for the show, but I also carry it occasionally.
