Without having it in-hand this is a difficult diagnosis.
Sounds like the case is somewhat sprung or the bezel is worn and incapable of closing tightly any longer or a combination of problems. Trying to slightly reform the case by hand might help, but you could also pop out or break the crystal. We can no longer just find another case, every worthwhile case should be properly repaired and saved. If you want it fixed correctly and to avoid possible future problems you could send it to Leon Harris, an IHC185 Member who has a solid reputation of doing fine case repairs.
