C.W.Co. Watch "Click" to Login or Register
posted
About a year or so ago I mentioned this watch, trying to find out about it, and it was decided that this particular watch was a swiss made Quaker City watch. Since then I have been looking for some other connection and find that the dial is likely a Early Columbus watch dial when Gruen first started the Columbus Watch Co., and at that time had been purchasing Swiss Ebauches from a Leo Ashbey in Switzerland, Could this be one of the early Swiss movement of that era, seeing as it appears to have the C.W.Co. dial. Ths is a K/W K/S 18s watch.
Thanks for any input or info available for this watch ???????

Your hunch about the dial makes sense, but I have no idea if Gruen ever thought to import this grade of movement. Everything I have had or seen are much higher level.

To confirm the maker, Page 374 of the 1980's Ehrhardt Meggers "Gold Book" describes this by the Patent number as "Swiss" and shows value that would put it around $65.00 now.

Also, the top plate(s) look like covers over the actual works plates.

Maybe it is worth pulling the dial to see how it got there.

Hi David,
Yes I noted that myself in the "Beginning to End" book.
But also in the "From Springfield to Moscow" Deuber Hampden Story on pg 38, there is a cheque made out to the Quaker Watch Co., unfortunately without reference that I could find, but must have been for movements or other watch parts, from them, or is that to much of a stretch ?????
That is what made me think that there might be some connection to the early C.W.Co dial etc.
Thaks,
Bill
