Can you believe it? I have a new Pansy!

It's not as nice as some of my other ones, but it's still "My Pansy" 14K Solid Gold, Trademark on the movement and Case. L&Co (Lissauer & Co.)

18 Diamond spaces, with one missing, so there are 17 diamonds on this one.

Hi Everybody,
This watch is nicer than I thought, however, it does have a hinge problem, and I was wondering if it is hard to fix a hinge?

Should it be made of gold like the watch? I would think that would be too weak for a hinge, please let me know what you think, and any information about WHERE I can get this done.
Thank you.

The case actually still closes tight very well, but needs repair.

Nice watch Sheila,

The only hinges I've repaired so far have been the gold plated Dennison 'Hunters' for which I've used brass bushing wire.
This is the stuff bought in lengths for making bushes for watches and small clocks. Check suppliers, they'll have different bore sizes available.

After cleaning the hinge joints thoroughly, I generally use a sliver of low melting point silver solder crushed to a wafer, then lay it in the groove under the wire with all surfaces fluxed, then heat until fused.
I then used a pen plater & 9ct gold to re-plate the tubes.

On the outer tubes, I found the best way of getting a nice compound curve over the ends was to replace the plugs, then use a fairly hard polishing buff in a Dremmel type high speed drill.
Looks like yours only needs the inner tube, so not too bad to do.
Sorry can't recommend a jeweller, but they're probably the best folks unless someone on IHC185 can help you out!

Thank you John, This gives me an understanding of what is involved and necessary for the repair, for sure. I hate to go into a repair and have no idea what the watch needs, or how much is involved in the service. This is great!
Thanks again.
Sheila

Robert,
Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was praying for when I posted. I only wanted someone that others know, or who they have had experience with.
There is only have one person in my area that does anything with watches, and he's new at it, so I'm not real confident with giving my watches to him yet.
Thanks again, for the name and number.

Hi Sheila,
Rob email me and ask me to introduce myself, I am a 4th Generation Jeweler with going on 27+ years of bench work exp. Our family own business of 92 years is the old in Overton County. I work with my grandfather who is 86 years young with over 60 years in the business.

This should not be a hard fix and I can and would do it in gold. I have a laser welder which will do the work on the case and will not even be noticable. If you need any more info please email me HarrisLJ@msn.com or phone 931-261-0543 Thanks in advance Leon

Sheila and everyone,

Leon comes highly recommended by several of our members.

Check out this recent topic for additional details of where Samie introduced him...

As you'll see from Samie's pictures that case was in pieces.

Leon is a great resource.
