I have had several different Brotherhood stuff but never seen a basic pin like this. It looks old but it is authentic or just a time period after market item. If it is real is it worth selling since it is just a plain pin and not the detail and workmanship in other pins. THis one is about 32mm in diameter.
That's an original "BRT" [ brotherhood of railroad trainmen] lapel or hat union/campaign/membership affiliation pin back button given to members in the 1950-60 era.
They were generally wore in the center of your cap to show affiliation & loyalty to your craft. The union represented switchmen & brakemen across the North American continent.
The other type of pins usually seen were entry level and years of service gold filled & 10K small lapel/tie tac screw back pins. These were automatically sent on the date of your anniversary thru the mail to your address from the Cleveland headquarters. These type pins had no years of service on the entry level pin and generally went up from there in 5 year increments. The most years I have personally seen were 55 years of service pins.
As RR trivia goes, any of the many RR crafts represented by these different labor organizations are quite collectible today.
regards, bb
