Hello all, Just found very cool watch 18S 21J Elgin grade 274 Veritas Wind indicator ser#10513311 think second run. movement has rare and unique dial has second bit at 3 o'clock and up/down bit at 9 o'clock, my understanding this allows the hunters case movement to instantly become an open face railroad style. I thought you might want to know the ser.# for data base. Chuck

From what I can find in the Elgin guide book, the Erhardt&Meggers RR price guide the Veritas 274 with or w/o wind indicator was RR approved. Hunter movements were phased out after 1905 or so in most RR companies but some allowed them to be grandfathered as long as they inspected properly. So it sounds like it was transitioned to an OF with a later replacement dial. The RR guide which was printed in 1995 lists the 275 WI in the price range of $4-6K only 4000 grade 274's were made and figure maybe 10% of those would be WI variants. Nice catch and pictures would really be nice.
