Any thoughts if this was an original Hamilton Metal Dial. and if it is. Is there any interest in me listing it on this Auction site.

I have a similar 4-ft metal dial on a Hamilton 972, Gene. I'd say yours looks legit.

16 or 18 sz?

It is not an original hamilton dial. It is an after market metal one I would say from the 50s or 60s? someone else may know more on when this style came available. I have seen many of these same metal dials available for all the major companies in this same exact style. If you watch ebay for a while this style seems to pop up in groups almost like the jeweler could buy them back in the day a lot cheaper byt he dozen or something. There may be some interest in it though as good dials are getting harder to find all the time.

It is for a 16sz. I think. Jared you might want to look this post over it is showing that some Hamilton's did come with metal Dials. Or maybe I'm reading it wrong. Go to the top of the link.

Your question was wether or not the dial you posted was an original Hamilton dial. I answered your question above on this. Yes, I agree hamilton used metal dials, but the style you show above was an aftermarket style that was made for waltham, elgin, hamilton, illinois, south bend, howard, rockford, etc. As I pointed out I assume this was done in the 50s or 60s to replace dmamaged porcelain and metal dials, but don't know for sure. I have personally seen these examples for all of these companies of the same exact dial style, both 16s and 18s. I'm guessing a member here can shed some light on when these came out and who supplied them to the watch community.

I just finished up this Hamilton 975 that was chosen by CLAUDE MILNER to be fitted with his own VERY UNIQUE personalized dial and housed into a late 1930's vintage "Base metal" case.

It matters little who made the dial and I expect Claude felt the same. I speculate Claude got the movement used (depression tradein) and spent the rest of his money on the dial.

Other than a broken staff, Claude took very good care of this watch (8 service marks) allowing me to repair and service it "back in" to RR time in short order.

I speculated a lot while working on this watch about who Claude was, is, and where this watch went with him!
