I put this question in the wrong place I think. Here it is on the main page. Maybe you guys can help me out....
Were all the cigarette boxes by ILL marked? Here's one that's not. Does that mean it's not a genuine Ill box?
thanks,
jeff

Yes Jeff, that one is a generic box for various uses such as cigarettes or to protect a bar of soap when traveling. Illinois aluminum boxes were used from 1925-29 and were specially signed "Sangamo Special" and "Bunn Special" on the front side of the lid as well as "Six Position Adjusted Watches" on the back side. They also had a particular style liner inside, a signed watch pouch and special instructions dealing with replacement information for the Sixty-Hour Mainspring which which the accompanying watch was equipped. Hope this helps, Lindell Wink

Here is an original Illinois aluminum box from my collection...

Jeff,

You see the empty Bunn/Sangamo aluminum boxes on eBay fairly often, not with all the bells & whistles like Lin's example, just the plain box.

I have a couple knocking around in my clutter, one of which I plan to sell in the IHC Mart.

Best Regards,

Ed
