I recently asked Questions about Anderson Dials in
Avoiding the Pitfalls of On-Line Trading. I received this watch and it was not running. A clean and oil and it is keeping time within 30 sec per day. My question other than providing a show and tell, is concerning the dial. References here in a search lead me to believe this needs a Andersdon marked movement, but I believe it is correct as is. Who knows? The dial is OK except for the damage below the seconds register. Can this be repaired reasonably? I know some have sent dials off to have them repaired. I have no idea if this is cost effective or not. I may just sell this again as is if I don't feel a strong desire to repair it. It is in a nice Sterling case with a well worn stag on the back. Anyhow, tell me your thoughts on this.

In my book, correct as is. Below is my 343 Elgin, Elgin did not make that many grade 343s and some are noted as being sold to A.N. Anderson, the unmarked versions but the 343 could be marked GMW or Overland. I have 2 Elgin with A.N. Anderson dials and I have not seen an Elgin with AN Anderson marked on the movement.

Hi Mike, I have a 16s Hampden with what I believe is Anderson damasceening but a Hampden dial. I also have a bad Anderson 18s dial on a 17 jewel New Railway Hampden but the movement is not marked Anderson.

The one I posted is not perfect but ok, it has a chip around the seconds sunk that I had to fix and another about the 28-29 min marker area. My other one is near perfect but I don't have a picture of it. Since Illinois, Hamilton behaved differently than Elgin on private labels my comment may not be 100% correct but I do occasionaly do a search for A.N. Anderson and I have seen more than a few dials marked that way but not movements. You would think the Hamilton "good book" would have some comments on that topic for some of the movements shipped out.

I just ran across a AN Anderson today at a antique mall. It was on a HC model 17j hampden in a base metal of case. They wanted $89, which was about $30-40 high in my opinion. The double sunk dial was very nice though.

This particular movement was originally sold to A N Anderson Jewlers in Minnesota. It is not marked on the movement, but it is apparently the original dial for this movement. I'm sure they had some movements marked but obviously not all were.

Mike my limited experience is that Anderson did have some movements marked but they also seemed to have made bulk buys of existing stock movements and put Anderson dials on at least some of them. They were quite a big wholesale house.

Deacon, I agree as I have two that were sold to A N Anderson, but are not marked on the movement. I'm sure the marked ones are rarer.
