I have a WGF Hamilton Model #5 case Serial #49104 in almost perfect condition, but no movement. I took a 1951 992B movement out of it. Frown

Can anyone tell me the year movement that should go in it. I was thinking a 992E, but that number is quite low on the case, so maybe just a 992?

Thank you for any help!

Regards,
Larry

Larry,I have a model 5 case s/n 53922 with a 992
s/n 2572780=1930.I believe it to be a correct
combination. My research shows the case first
appeared in 1928 and expired in 1934.

Acc to Don Dahlberg's records, the Model 5 first shipped in 1928 and ran at least thru 1933 on the 992...altho I am seeing a few 992Es shipped in Model 5 cases in 1934. 95% of them had 992s in them. There WERE some 992Es shipped in the Model 5 as well. (see links below)

From what I'm seeing on the shipping records, at bottom it says (referencing 992s) "There was no product of this Grade after 1931" If this is true, Hamilton did not manufacture any straight 992s after that date,
simply numbered the few that sold acc to date from the quantity on hand and returns that came back in. Reading further at bottom of these ship records, in 1933 they evidently had only 60 992s on hand. When I thought about it, how many 992 Hamiltons have we actually seen dating between 1932-1936? Not many... due to the 992 Elinvar replacing it. The 992E narrowstripe was a obscure variant and one can take those ship records for what they are worth, but if you notice few if any 1930 992E shipped, (I'm seeing TWO) which would have been the year of the narrowstripe pattern, maybe lumped the narrowstripe in with the 1930 992 shipments? Or were some not sold/shipped until 1931? Without original boxes and numbers matching we will never know...

The 2 most prolific years for this case were 1928 and 1929

Roger's watch was one of 401 shipped in 1930 if he has the 14K WGF. If his is yellow there were 880 shipped. The Yellow Gold filled were 10K altho a very few yellow were 14K GF.

Here's the links for them:

Model 5 WGF Cases 1928-1933

Model 5 YGF Cases 1928-1933

And here's the 992E shipping list. If you have a 1934 992E Larry there were TWO shipped that year in a WGF Model 5 Case!

992 Elinvars shipped in Model 5 Cases 1931-1934
