I bought a size 8 Illinois hunter case watch & I am curious about the case marks. The case has all the appearances of being a solid gold case, from the weight, thinness of the metal, the dust cover give.

It is only marked Dueber but looking in the Trademark Index Dueber registered several different anchor symbols including the 18K, 14K, & gold filled marks that are listed in the price guide.

They also registered one that I don't see in the price guide that looks like the one I have photographed below. This mark was registered as a 10K case.

I was wondering if anyone has any further information on this. The mark they registered for 10K cases does not show where the numbers 10K was stamped along with the mark.

Thanks

Tom

I looked at Shugart's book, p.36, and read that the "Duber anchor" on SOLID gold 14k and 18k cases is 'raised' as opposed to engraved. I wonder if this feature is sufficient to distinguish between solid gold and gold-filled Dueber cases?

Mike

I noticed that too, I have never seen the 10K cases discussed before & I don't see them mentioned in the book. The trademark book does show the 14 & 18 as raised but doesn't say that for the 10K but shows a different shaped anchor.

First we need to know if this is an engraved or raised anchor on case #6216....

Since it doesn't have the word 'Special' I would guess that it is 10k filled case if it is engraved and I think it probably is other wise it would be labeled 14 or 18k....

That is an unusual looking anchor, I'll agree, but has probably lost some of it's sharpness over the years....

An interesting subject and maybe we need to start a string that shows cases with marks that do not appear in the price guide and get them included in the next publication or two....or maybe you have just started that string, Tom....

In reply to your question, Mike, I think that is indeed the distinguishing feature in the gold filed -vs- solid gold Dueber cases....

Regards,

Jerry

Maybe I didn't make myself clear, it is not raised, but as I said Dueber tradmarked an engraved anchor in that style for 10K solid gold cases. I was wondering if others have seen that anchor or if they have any cases like it.

Also the anchor is still sharp.

I think I found my answer on an old post here that I missed when I searched earlier.

https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...=684105595#684105595

In it Ed posted some of the hallmarks & he also shows this as a 10K case.

One thing I hadn't noticed before is Dueber I think tried to give meaning to the shape & type of anchor they used.
