I just picked up this Waltham model 1857 Wm Ellery serial # 76390 and wanted to post a few pictures. From the research I have done I think this to be a Model 1857, 7 jewel, production date of April 1863, which if correct would make this being produced during the Civil War.
The dial has a couple of hairlines but looks good overall. The case is not a Waltham case, as I would have liked, but it has only the one case screw mark of this movement and I think it is, or could be, original to the watch as I have seen several other watches of this time period with the same identical case.
The hands are the polished tip spade type and at first I wasn't sure about these polished tips but after doing a lot of research on these old CW era Walthams I have found quite a few with these polished tip hands, as well as several old articles that mentions Waltham using them. Both watch and case look to be in very good condition and keeping very good time.
I will add a few photos, any input or comments welcome.
Thanks, Donnie
