A.K. Jobe Hamilton 940 glass back - opinions?

This is one of the seller's images. I can post others, if asked - but will wait to be asked. I'm primarily interested in opinions on the suitability of the glass backed case. I like to wear my timepieces. Is this case appropriate for that use?

Yes its suitable to ware it that way you can easily show the great movement with out taking the back off.

I agree with Peter. I have several watches in salesman cases to view the movements at work. The back bezel appears to have at least a medium thick beveled glass crystal in it which is good and should be fine for carrying.

In reality it depends on the job one has and the way and where the watch is carried.

I could not wear a glass back in my job in RR train service. It was likely because I carried my watch in my long sleeved shirt pocket with an over flap and button or snap. After breaking more than one crystal by hitting a solid object or pressing against a solid object and getting glass in the movement and dial, I no longer would carry a glass back watch. I never had problems with a regular open faced watch with a crystal on one side. But glass on both sides just didn't work for me.

So I would think it would depend on the user, his/her job, where carried, and perhaps as Rob alluded to the thickness of the crystals.

regards,
bb

If you enjoy sharing your watches with anyone and everyone you come in to contact with... a display case makes a ton of sense.

Opening the watch for show and tell puts the watch at risk every time I open the back.

One day, a perfectly fine watch quit working. I recalled showing it to a friend earlier in the day... opened the watch to find an eyelash lodged in the escape/pallet area... Plucked it out with a pair of tweezers and all was fine.

Thanks for the replies. I'll know about the crystal when it arrives...

My job does not endanger life, limb, or pocketwatch.

I think I'll have to mount a road trip to Jackson, TN to see if I can find "Jobe's Corner".

Now...off to definitively nail down the history on this rather "intesting" watch. So far, I've gotten the basics by reading various posts here - but there have been a few references and short hand allusions that I don't yet understand.

Thanks again!
