I'm sure someone must have discussed this somewhere in this forum, and I have not yet found it.

As far as the CONSTRUCTION OF THE MOVEMENT is concerned (not the adjustment, regulation, case, etc):

What is the difference between the following two models built within approximately the same period:

a) Hamilton 16s 992B marked "Railroad" on dial,
b) Hamilton 16s 992B not marked "Railroad".

None that I'm aware of. Just different dials and only one version/model.

Mark is right, there is only one grade version of the 992B, a railroad grade, railroad approved watch as shipped from the factory whether or not the dial was marked railway special.

The title is somewhat misleading since ALL Hamilton 992B's are/were Railroad Grade/Railroad Approved, there weren't any "non-railroad" Hamilton 992B's.

There are NO Hamilton 992B's that were ever marked "Railroad" on the dial. There may be some after market dials that could possibly be marked that way that we aren't aware of.

All 992Bs from the factory said either "Hamilton" or "Hamilton Railway Special" on their dials.

[ I am not aware of any "private label" dials that were created & ordered from the factory for the Hamilton 992B's, and if anyone has one, I would be delighted to see it. ]

Paul welcome to our club. As your question has drawn out have several views of your point. Do you have one or more particular Hamilton 992B watches that stimulated this question. Also did you mean the term "Railway Special" when posing your question?

Indeed, David Abbe, I certainly meant "Railway Special". So far, I am the proud owner of two of this admirable machines, one with "Railway Special" on the melamine dial (stainless steel case, with the broken regulator screw) and one with only "Hamilton" on the porcelain dial (gold plated case).

May I take this opportunity to thank you all, gentlemen, for welcoming me into what I am realizing is a forum comprised of very pleasant-mannered and knowledgeable members.

You have two fine watches, my friend. I hope you're carrying at least one as a daily carry watch.

I am carrying one daily, Mark, and "I'm lovin' it". I have a problem with perspiration around my wrists which corrodes any type of watch band, even Tag Heuer stainless steel (to their horror). I'm glad there are people still caring for these well-built pocket watches.

Dear Larry,

I am far from being an expert, and I always welcome advice from the men who know.

I have already removed the regulator spring with its two screws, with the broken regulator screw still in the spring. I am regulating the watch now by shifting the regulator needle slightly. David Abbe assured me this method would not harm the watch.

I don't know the procedure for exchanging offers, prices, emails, etc, and I do want to do things properly. If you would be so kind as to guide me, I would appreciate it.

PS: GENTLEMEN: Can you also please look in the watch repair section for my question today on a loose Elgin movement...
