I am having trouble identifying both the maker and the firm behind this swiss private label chronometer. Any help as to the maker of the watch or who "Harris & Co." was is greatly appreciated.

Movement Signed "Harris & Co. - London - Cape Town - Johannesburg - 21178"

Has anyone seen this name before?

Not sure who made movement, factory-maker ID trademark may be found under dial. Harris & Co. was a retailer not the maker of movement. The case = English, hallmarks = D H & Co = Daniel Holy & Co. which was the case maker, city or town hallmark = Chester England, P hallmark = year 1898.

Besides being English made, it appears to be a Chronograph not a Chronometer....A significant difference exists between the 2. The chronograph measures time intervals, the chronometer is usually related to timekeeping accuracy with a better type of escapement..

Cooksey,

Thanks for the case info. I knew the name Harris & Co. was a retailer rather than the maker. I was just hoping someone might have some details about who they were or where they were located.

John,

My limited attention span caught me off guard. Your right, the watch is a chronograph. I simply wasn't paying attention to what I was typing.

Thanks for your input. Google has turned up several Harris & Co. hits but none that appear to be related to horology or jewelry. Still hoping to find a little more detail about them if someone should have any.
