Hi to all. I have a Waltham Vanguard "Premier" 1936, and was wondering what the difference is between a normal Waltham Vanguard and a "Premier"?. Regards from the UK. Steve.

Hello Stephen, good of you to stop by....Sorry it took so long in getting to try to answer your question.... Without going into a lot of detail since I really have not seen your watch and it would help if you could post some photos but the high points are as follows: Your 'Premier' is a 17j, M# 1892, lever set, open face watch and I do not know what the case is, none the less the value according to The Complete Price Guide to Watches, 2010 Edition, is $125.00, 150.00 & $250.00 USD. The 'Vanguard' 17j, M# 1892, is lever set, Adj. 5pl, Double Roller, Gold Jewel Settings, Open Face and has a two star rating for rarity and it's value across the board is $400, $650, & $1000.... If we had a photo of yours along with the serial number we could tell you alot more about your watch.... If you would like to obtain a copy of The Complete Price Guide to Watches just click on the link and it will take you to the information you need to do so.... Again, you are welcome to stop by anytime and chat with us.... Regards, Jerry

Hi Jerry. The serial number on the watch is 29,377,743 which seems to date to 1936?. It says 23 jewels and 6 positions. It cost $190.00 from the USA E-bay excluding import duty and shipping....... and I love it. Take care.....Steve.

Hello Steve, As you can see I was able to get your first photo downloaded but the others for some reason would not work properly.... However by using your serial number into the data base I was able to determine that your watch was # 2743 of a run of 5000 and it is in fact a 23 jewel movement, Mdl. 1908, grade 1623, open face.... The dial, case & movement are triple signed as Premier and the book value is: $200, $400 & $600.... You do have a nice watch and your paid price is excellent... Maybe there will be others that will stop by and give us additional comments.... Regards, Jerry

Stephen, your complete "triple signed" 23 Jewel Premier is worth at least 2 - 3 times the price you paid. Also it compliments you with a very fine and serviceable timepiece for regular use. Congratulations.

Well well and what a surprise!.....I know very little about watches and at the moment I am cutting my teeth on rebuilding and refurbishing Smiths and Ingersoll pocket watches to a high standard just for something to do in the evening. This watch is lovely ( e-bay No 260647580873 ), and runs very well. The crystal was plastic, so I sent off to Daves watch parts in the USA for a glass crystal which I have now fitted. I obviously get a little confused to serial numbers as I thought it was 1936 so heaven knows. I would like to thank Jerry and Dave for their input and would like to add that a gentleman by the name of Kelley Long from Payette, Idaho has been an invaluable help to me over the months. He is a real first rate chap. Kind regards, Steve......UK. 1936_w.doc (108 Kb, 208 downloads) Movement
