Friends:Please allow me to explain my situation to help make this question more understandable.
I'm new and have focused on Elgins and repair. I have a friend I met that is also new;he only collects-some Elgins but mostly Hamiltons. We have shared knowledge and tried to fill each others gaps by email and phone.
Now,Ive been around Elgins long enough to get interested in more, and Hamiltons seemed a logical and wise choice.I saw Mr.Sanchez's Hamilton 992B pocket for sale on our site and was interested. When I told my friend that I was about to purchase a 992B #C367170 he said that I'd made a mistake; he had advised "E".
Now-dismissing factory Hamilton case issues and the like, the only difference I see is Elinvar parts.Certainly that makes a difference-but I see little else. Is this the blind leading the blind or what?

IMHO if it was a watch I was going to carry every day I would opt for the 992B...its a tough old bird and parts are readily available...If it was for collectability or the beauty of the movement the 992E I would think would have the edge...what will you use the watch for is the question I would ask myself..keep in mind I am by no means a expert, just an opinion...

Mark-I have recently found out(thanks to Phil Sanchez) that the 992B has interchangeable parts-which does make it perfect for carrying and making repairs-which I'm trying(!) to learn. I was looking for a more collectible piece,so I guess the 992E was the pocket for me right now...On the OTHER hand I need to branch out a bit and learn more than just Elgin-so I think this means I'll eventually get both.I'm just starting to get brave enough to try minor work on higher quality pockets...a 992B sounds perfect.
Thanks for your input-I need all I can get! - Marty
