The feet are pinned, very close to an early Illinois pattern.

feet are:
1 just past 54 minutes
1 at 19 minutes
1 just shy of 37 minutes

I tend to agree with Peter on this Paul, looks like Waterbury to me.

Reading up on Waterbury was interesting... I didn't even know they existed. I might have to find one of them there running skeleton watches just for fun.

Interestingly, through a third party inquiry... an unlikely source shot me an email with an answer that looks pretty right on to me.

Cornell Watch Company... now, the trick is to date the dial and match it to a likely movement.

This photo is from a known Cornell example and based on the art work, I'd be inclined to agree.

Google images brought this up, Series J ca. 1890.

There were a couple others with the same logo but only the logo.

Lorne, looks like our posts overlapped...

Now I'm on the hunt for a 15J, 19J or 20J Cornell W Co movement with San Francisco on the back.

It doesn't need to be running, but does need to be complete and have a prayer for restoration.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area and spent many a day in and around The City.

This watch would be from a time when Frisco was a rough and tumble frontier shipping port with big money coming and going. The days of shanghai crews to man vessels for voyages, dusters, six shooters and spittoons.

That dial is very artistic but I think it is a hand-drawn "fake". The Waterbury dials plus one fake that passed through my collection are annotated below. Note the "Duplex" had no dial signature.

These are the movements including an "Addison" I forgot to show the (unsigned) dial from before. Note the Ingersoll-Waterburys which have $ watch style plates are assembled with separate jeweled balance cocks. Even the Waterbury "Duplex" (center) expresses the idea of a Jeweled Balance.

The "Tacy" is a Swiss Cylinder movement. Pigs would sing before Waterbury would have tried to do that!

I have to vote that it's from the Cornell Watch Co. I don't believe it is a logo from the Waterbury folks.

Early on Cornell was based in Chicago 1870-1874, but moved to San Fransisco and operated there from 1875-1876 and were sold to The California Watch Co. in 1876

All that being said, I am under the impression that the San Fran watches had dials so marked with CWCo San Fransisco on the dials but I am not 100% certain. There are people out there that would know that information..... perhaps they will come forward.

regards,
bb

Thanks Buster,

We'll, we know where a dial is if a correct movement perks to the surface.

It would be fun to have a SF watch... but, a correct Cornell would be even better.
