A Hamilton 992E question "Click" to Login or Register

I've just noticed something I've never paid attention to. On 992E's, the balance arms are drilled out at the ends where they widen out to the rim.I realize the Elinvar one is not the same as the standard compensation balance wheel. Are those holes there just for identification, or is there an engineering reason for them?If this seems like a dumb question, please pardon my ignorance! Thanks, Ted.

Ted, that's not a dumb question. I'd like to know the answer too.
