Sunshine polishing cloth "Click" to Login or Register

I've been using a Sunshine cloth to wipe my pocket watch after handling and before placing in my display case. It seems to be doing a fine job on all my watches regardless of type of metal. Is this a safe product to use? Opinions and comments appreciated.

Regards,

Bob

I always wondered about this cloth, or actually, any cloth used to polish or clean a watch.

Bob, great question.

Sheila,

This cloth feels very soft. It appears to be treated with something almost like an oil or wax of some type. Just light rubbing will clean and shine the case. However some people have stated that it will take off a little of the metal. I really like the way it makes my watches look with just a light touch of the cloth.

Regards,

Bob

Those microfiber cloths that are hyped on some of the television shopping channels do a good job also. I picked up some at "Dollar Tree" some time ago, 2 or 3 for $1.00 (big difference in the price!) and found a bundle of at least a dozen at "Big Lots" a few months back for less than $10. They are soft and have no abrasive in the fabric.

I work in a shop that makes reelseats for fly rods (and bamboo rods, rodmaking tools, etc..). We use Sunshine cloths for the final polish on our nickel-silver hardware before we ship them out, and I haven't had any problems yet. The only thing I could see causing a problem is if grit/debris got on the cloth, but I believe they are machine washable, so I can't really see that being a real issue. Hope this helps.

Joe Martin

I recommend a Selvyt cloth. These can be purchased through Borel or any other material house. They are washable, they don't leave lint or threads behind, and they do a really good job.
