Is this for real? I am not sure what to think about this one.

Any info would be appreciated.

John As far as I see it is real. 17 jewels is the lowest jeweling on Seth Thomas Molineaux watches, it has the otherwise unusual hairspring stud/pin, gold jewel settings and beveled screws, adjusted marking under the balance. Regards Gerald

John, this is an interesting anomaly in the Gold Book, the lowest (1980's time frame) valuation for this 17J Henry Molineaux if in the $700-800 range while the 2013 P.G. goes lower for average (what people bid in eBay) to about the same at middle good condition. Either way it is bid up to $224.00 at the time of this reply which is 1/3 to 1/2 it's lowest true valuation. The odd-ball minute hand (Illinois 16s?) and watchmaker-made display case might deserve replacement, but for now who cares? An avid Seth Thomas collector would value this at mid-book, anybody who "lands" it for less than $500.00 is doing pretty well. It is an interesting "oddment" of S.T. design to "cap" the Pallet Fork Pivot Jewels to raise the count to 17.

Where am I going wrong? Maybe I will figure it out as I write this. P.390 2013 Guide shows only Model #3OF and #2HC Henry Molineux yet if you go to P. 395 the Model #1OF looks like the one that is posted above. What up?

These "Hank Millers" never command the same prices as a Maiden Lane, partly because they fall under the PL category and partly because the patterns on the early Model 3s never seemed to be etched that deeply, making them look plain and dull. Here's a better example with a sharper pattern:

The same "tic-tac-toe" pattern was used on the first full run of Maiden Lanes, SN 205501 to 205600. This is my example, SN 205505, the fifth Maiden Lane:

Your pictures always amaze me Eric. I guess I don't have the patience or equipment you do.
