I've seen in old Waltham ads that at least in the 16s '08 models " Riverside grade and above" had a roller jewel that was pressed into the roller instead of being just held in with shellac. That seems like such a good idea that I wonder if the other watch companies tried to do the same.Anyone know if any did ? Waltham was probably the greatest innovator of the U.S. watchmakers, seems like they were the first to come out with parts like double rollers, motor barrels, etc.I've had several watches that had roller jewels fall out, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has happened to!

The Waltham press fit roller Jewel was truly an innovation of assembly tooling. Using what looks like a copper roller, Waltham evidently succeeded in fabricating an assembly machine which held, positioned and press-fitted a roller jewel into the slightly softer Copper roller without breaking it. All of this happened when the rest of the world still thought Americans could not make a good Horse-shoe!
